Im Rahmen des Winterkollegs »Macedonian intermedial« am Institut für Slawistik der Universität Graz und in Kooperation mit der Southeast Europe Association e.V. (SOG) veranstaltet das Theater am Lend einen Abend, der dem zeitgenössischen mazedonischen Theater gewidmet ist. Das Programm bringt Studierende, Wissenschaftler:innen und Theaterpraktiker:innen in einem Format zusammen, das Diskussion, Performance und öffentlichen Dialog miteinander verbindet.
Der Abend beginnt mit einleitenden Worten, gefolgt von einem Gespräch mit dem mazedonischen Dramatiker Dejan Dukovski, einem der meistgespielten Balkan-Autoren, dessen Stücke auf mehr als 150 Bühnen weltweit aufgeführt und in zahlreiche Sprachen übersetzt wurden.
Ein zentraler Höhepunkt des Programms ist die szenische Lesung von Dukovskis neuestem Stück Crno Zlato (Black Gold), präsentiert auf Englisch und Mazedonisch. Crno Zlato erzählt die Geschichte einer trans Frau, die in ihre Heimatstadt zurückkehrt, sich ihrer Familie stellt und Erinnerungen an ihr früheres Leben im kleinen Balkanstaat Nordmazedonien durchlebt. Auf die Lesung folgt eine Podiumsdiskussion über die gesellschaftliche Wirkung zeitgenössischer Dramatik mit Dejan Dukovski, Vertreter:innen des Theater am Lend sowie Theaterwissenschaftler:innen, Künstler:innen und Forscher:innen aus Skopje, Belgrad und Graz. Die Diskussion wird von Prof. Tatjana Petzer (Institut für Slawistik, Universität Graz) moderiert.
Die Veranstaltung zielt darauf ab, einen Raum für die transnationale Zirkulation des zeitgenössischen mazedonischen Theaters zu schaffen, in dem wissenschaftliche Reflexion auf theatrale Praxis trifft. Dem Publikum werden Einblicke in die aktuelle Balkan-Dramaturgie geboten, während zugleich die Rolle der Studierenden als aktive Interpret:innen und Darsteller:innen neuer dramatischer Texte hervorgehoben wird.
As part of the Winter College »Macedonian intermedial« at the Department of Slavic Studies of the University of Graz and in cooperation with the Southeast Europe Association e.V. (SOG), Theater am Lend will host an evening dedicated to contemporary Macedonian contemporary theatre. The program brings together students, scholars, and theatre practitioners in a format that combines discussion, performance, and public dialogue.
The evening opens with introductory remarks followed by a conversation with the Macedonian playwright Dejan Dukovski, one of the most frequently staged Balkan drama writers whose works have appeared on more than 150 stages worldwide and have been translated into numerous languages.
A central highlight of the program is the students’ drama reading of Dukovski’s latest play, Crno Zlato (Black Gold), presented in English and Macedonian. Crno Zlato follows the story of a transgender woman going back to her hometown, facing her family, and reminiscing memories of her past life in the small Balkan country of North Macedonia. The reading is followed by a panel discussion on contemporary drama’s impact on society, featuring Dejan Dukovski, representatives of Theater am Lend, theatre scholars, artists, and researchers from Skopje, Belgrade, and Graz. The discussion is moderated by Prof. Tatjana Petzer (Institute of Slavic Studies, University of Graz).
The event aims to create space for transnational circulation of Macedonian contemporary theatre where academic reflection meets theatrical practice, offering audiences insight into contemporary Balkan dramaturgy while highlighting the role of students as active interpreters and performers of new dramatic texts.
